New Jersey Devils forward Patrik Elias said Wednesday he wasn't seriously hurt from crashing into the boards during the game Tuesday against the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Pete DeBoer, the Devils coach, told reporters he's "optimistic" and not ruling Elias out for Friday against the Chicago Blackhawks. He said he will know more Thursday.
"I don't know," Elias said. "We'll see. It's day-to-day. My upper body is pretty good. My lower body is more sore. Not from the fall, just that hit. Luckily I kind of tucked in my head and shoulder. I'm a little sore, but nothing serious."
Elias, who did not practice Wednesday, was hit by Penguins forward Tanner Glass after playing the puck in the neutral zone in a 2-1 victory by the Devils.
"I’m hopeful," DeBoer said. "It’s premature [to predict]. We want to try to give him as much time as we can before we start making those decisions."
