The New Jersey Devils are proud to announce their nomination of goaltender Cory Schneider for the 2014 King Clancy Memorial Trophy. The King Clancy Memorial Trophy is awarded annually “to the player in the League that best exemplifies leadership qualities both on and off the ice and has made a noteworthy humanitarian contribution in his community.”

Schneider, 28, just completed his fourth full NHL season, first with the Devils. In only a short time in New Jersey, Schneider has made a quick impact, devoting time to such charities as the Sunshine Foundation of Canada, which answers the dreams of chronically ill, seriously ill, physically challenged and abused children; Make-A-Wish New Jersey; and the Newark Humane Society Shelter.

This season, Schneider met one-on-one with Kameron Seguin, a nine-year-old with congenital amyoplasia who was welcomed at a Devils practice by the team and coaching staff, and treated to lounge seats for a Devils game at Prudential Center. After the game, Schneider, who’s Kameron’s favorite player, met with his family.

Through Make-A-Wish of New Jersey, Schneider also made time to support Steven Schapiro in his battle against cancer. After meeting Schneider at Devils practice, Schapiro suited up and hit the ice with Devils alumni Bruce Driver and Jim Dowd.

Locally, Schneider participated in the Devils’ annual visits to the pediatric wards of New Jersey hospitals with a trip to Morristown Medical Center, participated in the club's Hockey Fights Cancer night, and contributed autographed items for donations to charitable auctions and fundraisers.

Schneider, a native of Marblehead, Mass., also maintains close ties to the Boston area, where he remains actively involved.

Together with wife Jill, Schneider has supported the Krystle Campbell Memorial Fund, an extension of One Fund Boston, in honor of their friend and those affected by the tragic events at the Boston Marathon last April. Schneider also contributed to the Hope Rises Relief Fund, set up to help pay for the victims’ medical costs and to support victims’ families of the Aurora, Colo., shootings.

In his first season with the Devils, Schneider posted the third-best goals-against average in the NHL (1.97) to go with a .921 save percentage and three shutouts in a career-high 45 appearances.

Drafted 26th overall by Vancouver in 2004, Schneider was acquired via trade at the 2013 NHL Draft.
