Three assists from Zubrus leads Lithuania past Romania
Lithuanian captain leads Div. I Group B with nine points (2g-7a)
Three assists from Dainius Zubrus propelled host Lithuania to a 5-2 win over Romania at the 2014 IIHF World Championship on Thursday.
The Lithuanian captain, Zubrus now leads all players in Division I Group B with nine points (2g-7a) in four games. His linemates Donatas Kumeliauskas (4g-4a) and Arnoldas Bosas (4g-2a) rank second and fourth, respectively, in tournament points.
Zubrus set up Kumeliauskas in the first period and Bosas in the second for a 2-0 Lithuanian lead after 40 minutes. Romania trimmed the deficit to one with a power-play marker early in the third, but Lithuania pulled away with three goals in the frame, including a Bosas empty-netter that Zubrus assisted on with 28 seconds left in regulation.
Lithuania can claim silver or bronze when it closes out the six-team round-robin tournament against Croatia on Saturday.
