Devils Re-Sign Defenseman Andy Greene to Long-Term Contract
Devils re-sign Andy Greene

Newark, NJ – The New Jersey Devils today re-signed defenseman Andy Greene to a new, long-term contract. The announcement was made by Devils’ President/General Manager Lou Lamoriello. As per club policy, no further terms were disclosed.

“As a senior member of the Devils’ defense, we consider Andy Greene one of the core players on our roster,” said Lamoriello. “We look forward to Andy being with our organization on a long-term basis.”

Greene, 31, will enter his ninth year with the Devils’ organization and eighth National Hockey League season overall. Last year, he finished second among the team’s defensemen with 32 points, while notching a career-high eight goals and 13 power play points. The 5-11, 190-lb. rearguard has appeared in a career-high 147 straight contests since March 6, 2012. Greene has career totals of 28 goals and 121 assists for 149 points and 154 penalty minutes in 477 NHL games, all with New Jersey. His career games-played total is first among Devils’ defensemen since making his debut Jan. 12, 2007. Born Oct. 30, 1982 in Trenton, MI, he was signed as an undrafted free agent on April 4, 2006. Greene made his professional debut with the AHL’s Lowell Devils in 2006-07, and participated in the league’s All-Star Game that season. In 2013-14, he was the recipient of New Jersey’s Unsung Hero award, as voted on by his teammates, for the second time in five seasons.

Greene joined the organization after four seasons, 2002-03 to 2005-06, with Miami University of Ohio (CCHA). His RedHawks’ totals showed 27 goals and 87 assists for 114 points in 159 career games played, and he finished first in scoring among the school’s defensemen four times (tie, ’05-06). Greene was named to the 2003 CCHA All-Rookie Team, 2004-2006 CCHA First All-Star Teams, and 2004/2006 CCHA All-Tournament Teams. Additionally, he was named the league’s 2005/2006 Offensive Defenseman of the Year, as well as 2006 Defensive Defenseman of the Year. Greene was also named to the 2005 NCAA West Second All-American Team and 2006 NCAA West First All-American Team. He played for Team USA during the 2010 World Championships, recording two assists in six games.
