Mites on Ice
Once again, the Devils and Modell's Sporting Goods have teamed up to present Mites on Ice. Youngsters between the ages of seven and nine participate in a mini-game during selected Devils' games. Participation in Modell's Mites on Ice is organized through the New Jersey Youth Hockey League. The Devils and Modell's are proud to promote youth hockey throughout New Jersey. Modell's is the official sporting goods store of the New Jersey Devils.

Read Across America

The Devils join schools across the United States each spring in celebrating Read Across America. Players, alumni, and broadcasters visit local schools in an effort to promote literacy and education by reading to elementary school children. Recent stops were made at Paterson (NJ) Public School no. 3, Franklin Township Elementary School (Washington, NJ), Special Children’s School (Sparta, NJ), School no. 5 (Linden, NJ), Private Nicholas Minue School (Carteret, NJ), Martin Luther King, Jr. School/Public School no. 11 (Jersey City, NJ), C.P. Nichols School (Jersey City, NJ), North Boulevard Elementary School (Pompton Plains, NJ), Washington School (Nutley, NJ), Mt. View School (Flanders, NJ), and Hazel Avenue School (W. Orange, NJ). The Devils united with all of the New York and New Jersey professional sports teams to celebrate Read Across America at the Intrepid Sea, Air, and Space Museum in New York City. The teams came together for the first time to announce the formation of a united effort to bring awareness to issues that face the community, with literacy being a top priority. Ken Daneyko was among players, alumni, executives, and mascots from each team who appeared at this unique event. To encourage reading, each team’s athlete read The Cat in the Hat to local children, with an appearance by the Cat himself and each child was given a copy to keep, courtesy of the National Education Association and Random House.

School Assembly

The Devils and MSG Plus are once again pleased to present the School Assembly Program. The content of the program is based on extensive previous involvement in area schools. The result is a 45-minute to one-hour presentation, which addresses many of the most pressing concerns facing youngsters today. It is designed to be effective whether it is delivered to an entire student body or a segment of students deemed most appropriate by the school's principal.

The value of education and a healthy lifestyle, and the benefits of desire, dedication, and discipline are among the basic inspirational themes covered in each assembly.

The assemblies are primarily conducted by former Devils Rob Skrlac, Grant Marshall and Bruce Driver. Each presentation is comprised of three main elements. These include: 1) an introductory video, narrated by Mike Emrick, containing assembly-oriented messages from Devils players, 2) a verbal reinforcement of the tape's messages from the Devils representative, and 3) a follow-up question and answer session. For more information, please visit our School Assembly Program Page.

School Nights
The Devils host a limited number of School Nights each season. Nearly 10,000 students, their families, and supporters representing more than 100 schools typically participate each season, using a Devils home game as a fund raiser or social event. School groups of 25 or more may participate in the program which recently completed its 11th season. For information, please contact the Devils Group Sales Department.

Street Devils™
The Devils and the National Hockey League have created a blueprint for an exciting street hockey program for kids called Street Devils™. This program serves local community centers and schools by providing an athletic and educational program free of charge. Street Devils™ is available to children (between the ages of six and 16) in northern and central New Jersey through selected local park districts, public and private schools, youth clubs, and other organized recreational facilities. More than 18,000 boys and girls, representing some 100 organizations, have participated since the program’s inception. Street Devils™ supplies each participating organization with sticks, goal nets, protective goaltender equipment, rubber pucks, and no-bounce balls. It is designed to be played on indoor gymnasium floors, outdoor playground surfaces, or other safe, paved, contained areas. The Street Devils™ program was established to make hockey more accessible to kids and to provide local communities with a youth sports program that promotes education, sportsmanship, and fitness through participation in hockey. The Devils are committed to continue building and maintaining a community program that encourages active participation in youth sports.
