...More numbers
On his own level: The 524 goaltenders who have played in the NHL since Terry Sawchuk set the all-time shutout record in 1964 have posted a total of 3,795 shutouts. Of those 524 goaltenders, 88% have recorded fewer than 20 shutouts and 98% have recorded fewer than 50.
Close, but no cigar: Brodeur has had seven games in which he was working on a shutout but gave up his first goal in the last minute of the third period (five) or in overtime (two).
Missed opportunity: On Nov. 9, 1996, Mike Dunham replaced Brodeur for 41 seconds of a 4-0 shutout of the New York Islanders. Brodeur therefore did not get credit for a shutout.
