Wild-Devils Preview

GAME: Minnesota Wild (20-22-15-2) at New Jersey Devils (30-16-10-1).

TIME: Tuesday, 7:30 p.m. EST.

After matching their longest losing streak in almost two years, the defending Stanley Cup champion New Jersey Devils seem to be back on track.

New Jersey looks to extend its winning streak to three games when it meets the Minnesota Wild for the only time this season.

The Devils lost 4-0 to the Vancouver Canucks in their final game before the All-Star break, and returned to action with consecutive defeats to the Philadelphia Flyers and New York Rangers.

The three-game losing streak was New Jersey's longest since a three-game skid from March 4-8, 2002.

The Devils snapped that slide with a 4-1 win over the Carolina Hurricanes on Saturday, then came from behind to beat the Los Angeles Kings 3-2 in overtime on Sunday.

After a strong performance against Carolina, the Devils looked like they were on their way to another loss Sunday after Los Angeles took a 2-0 lead just 10 minutes into the game.

New Jersey, however, got a power-play goal from Sergei Brylin near the end of the first period and tied the game on Jamie Langenbrunner's eighth goal of the season at the seven-minute mark of the second.

Rookie defenseman Paul Martin, who assisted on Langenbrunner's goal, won it for New Jersey with 1:07 left in overtime.

"I think we all took it as a challenge to come back, after we let up those two goals," Martin said. "A couple of bounces didn't go our way, but we showed a lot of character as a team to bounce back."

Minnesota lost for the second time in its last three games on Sunday, falling 2-1 at home to the Calgary Flames.

The Wild missed an opportunity to gain on one of the teams they are chasing in the Western Conference. Minnesota is 10th in the West, one season after advancing to the conference finals.

"It seems whenever we get to one game below the .500 mark, we just can't seem to get there," Minnesota center Wes Walz said.

The Devils are 3-1-1 all-time against Minnesota, including wins in both contests at Continental Airlines Arena.
