Devils-Sabres Preview

GAME: New Jersey Devils (8-7-2) at Buffalo Sabres (8-9-0).

TIME: Tuesday, 7 p.m. EST.

The New Jersey Devils look to extend their unbeaten streak against the Buffalo Sabres to 12 games when the teams meet for the second time this season.

New Jersey beat Buffalo 3-2 in the teams' first meeting this season, and has eight wins and three ties in the last 11 games in the series since a 2-1 road loss on Jan. 12, 2002.

The Devils are coming off a home-and-home series sweep of the Washington Capitals, winning 4-3 on Friday and scoring three power-play goals in a 3-2 victory Saturday.

Those games marked the return of goaltender Martin Brodeur, who had missed New Jersey's six previous contests with a sprained right knee.

Brodeur saved 39 of 44 shots in the two games to record career win Nos. 408 and 409, moving him ahead of Glenn Hall and into sixth place all time.

"I survived the game," Brodeur said Friday. "Personally, I felt really good in there. My leg was good. I was not afraid to play the way I wanted to play. That's something I was looking at before getting a start. I'm pretty happy about it."

Grant Marshall scored the game-winner with 4:43 remaining in the second period Saturday as the Devils registered a power-play goal for the eighth consecutive game.

"Our main goal is to get in front of the net and get some pucks through," Marshall said. "We have to battle hard in front and keep chipping away."

New Jersey's fifth-ranked power-play unit has scored 20 goals in 17 games this season. In 2003-04, the Devils scored only 51 goals with the man advantage and were ranked 15th.

The Sabres continued to struggle Saturday, falling 6-1 at Ottawa. Buffalo started the season with six wins in its first eight games, but has since lost seven of nine.

Six of the Sabres' eight victories were picked up by goalie Ryan Miller, who remains out until mid-December with a fractured right thumb.

Derek Roy scored the lone goal Saturday for the Sabres, who allowed four goals during a second period in which they were outshot 15-7.

"When we implode, we really implode," Sabres coach Lindy Ruff said. "We talked about turnovers and then we make two big ones and give them two goals. These guys can finish, so you can't afford turnovers against them."
