GAME: New Jersey Devils (32-22-7) at New York Islanders (27-29-4).

TIME: Tuesday, 7 p.m. EST.

New Jersey Devils goaltender Martin Brodeur looks to avoid his third consecutive loss to the New York Islanders when the teams meet at the Nassau Coliseum.

Brodeur, 32-15-1 with four ties and a 2.20 goals-against average lifetime versus the Islanders, has lost three straight to the Atlantic Division rivals once. The future Hall of Famer also has recorded a career-best 32 wins over both the Islanders and Rangers.

However, New Jersey is just 3-5-2 in its last 10 meetings with the Islanders since its seven-game unbeaten streak was snapped with a 5-4 loss on Dec. 16, 2003.

The Devils are 2-0-1 in their last three games to raise their record to 16-4-2 since a 6-3 loss to Toronto on Dec. 31.

That defeat dropped New Jersey to 16-18-5 and 17 points behind then-first-place Philadelphia and 12 points back of the Rangers in the Atlantic Division.

New Jersey remains in third place, but trails the division-leading Rangers by just nine points and the Flyers by seven.

Brodeur made 26 saves and Brian Gionta scored the eventual game-winner as the Devils snapped the Rangers' seven-game winning streak with a 2-1 victory on Saturday.

The win made Brodeur the first netminder in NHL history to collect 10 straight 30-win seasons. No goalie has recorded more than eight such campaigns in a row.

"It's one of the things I like most about the records that I'm doing," said Brodeur, whose 433 wins trail only Patrick Roy (551), Ed Belfour (456), Terry Sawchuk (447) and Jacques Plante (435) on the all-time list. "One thing I wanted to be in my career is consistent.

"That's one thing Patrick Roy was able to do throughout his career and I tried to go the same way. It means you've been healthy and successful."

The Islanders began a stretch that will see them play six of eight on the road with a 5-2 loss to Washington on Monday.

Arron Asham and Joel Bouchard each scored, but the Capitals' Bryan Muir beat goalie Garth Snow twice in just over 10 minutes to put the game away.

Snow, making just his 11th start of the season, is 0-7-0 with a 4.01 GAA since his last win, a 4-2 decision over the Flyers on Nov. 26.

New York is in 12th place in the conference but just nine points behind eighth-seed Montreal for the final playoff spot.
