In the midst of their longest home losing streak in nearly nine years, the Ottawa Senators face a goalie that has frustrated them on their home ice when they meet Martin Brodeur and the New Jersey Devils on Saturday.

Ottawa (2-4-0) lost 2-1 to Colorado on Thursday to fall to 0-4-0 at Scotiabank Place this season. The Senators, who had the fourth-best home record in the NHL last season at 29-9-3, haven't lost five in a row at home since Nov. 8-22, 1997.

"We wouldn't have guessed that was going to happen at the start of the year but we definitely haven't given ourselves as good a chance as we should to win games," said Senators defenseman Wade Redden, who is scoreless this season after recording a career-high 50 points last year.

"Usually we're really good at this, especially at home. I don't know what it is. It just seems like we've got guys doing five different things sometimes all over the ice and until we get back to playing together, it's going to be the same thing."

The Senators have been outscored 13-4 and shut out twice at home this season, and now get to face Brodeur, who is 16-6 with two ties, five shutouts and a 1.85 goals-against average in his career in Ottawa.

Brodeur, who ranks third on the all-time wins list with 450, is 25-15 with four ties and a 2.10 GAA in 44 starts against the Senators. The two-time Vezina Trophy winner should be well-rested for this contest after sitting out Thursday's 4-3 shootout loss to Nashville.

The Devils (4-2-1) staged another third-period comeback by scoring twice against the Predators in the final 2:07 of regulation to send the game to overtime, but missed on all three of their attempts in the shootout. New Jersey rallied from a three-goal third-period deficit on Oct. 12 to beat Toronto 7-6 in a shootout.

"We'd like to avoid being in the position where we have to do that," backup goalie Scott Clemmensen said, "but it's comforting to know if we do get in that situation, we don't give up and we have a chance because we have done it before."

Brian Gionta scored twice Thursday, including the tying goal with 11.6 seconds to go in regulation, and leads the Devils with six goals and 11 points.

The Senators went 0-for-3 on the power play in Thursday's loss to the Avalanche and have not scored in their last 31 attempts with the man advantage. They are an NHL-worst 1-for-33 in power-play chances this season.

Ottawa had struggling starter Martin Gerber back in goal Thursday for the first time since a 4-3 loss to Buffalo on Oct. 7, but backup Ray Emery could start against the Devils.

Emery, who went 1-1 and allowed just three goals on 53 shots in two games as Gerber's replacement, is 2-0-1 with a 1.96 GAA in his career against the Devils. Gerber is 1-3-0 with a 3.31 GAA this season and 1-1-1 with a 2.35 GAA lifetime against New Jersey.

These teams split four meetings last season, with each team winning once on the other's home ice.
