New Jersey Devils
newjerseydevils.com – After Atlanta had gotten up off the mat for a second time, Patrik Elias delivered the final knockout blow.

Elias scored a power-play goal with 28 seconds left in regulation to break a 5-5 tie and give the Devils a 6-5 win over the Thrashers Saturday night. Martin Brodeur stopped 12 of 17 Atlanta shots to register his first win of the season.

Elias' goal was his second of the game and capped a three-point night for forward, who had one assist in his first four games.

Now the Devils (2-3-0) look to post back-to-back victories for the first time this season when they visit Pittsburgh tonight (7:30 p.m., FSN NY, WFAN 660 AM). It is New Jersey's first meeting with the Penguins (2-2-0) and Sidney Crosby, last year's league MVP.

Zach Parise had two assists against the Thrashers for his second multi-point game, and the third-year center leads the Devils with five assists and six points. The Minneapolis native now has 100 career points.

Jay Pandolfo, Travis Zajac and Sergei Brylin each recorded their first goals of the season, as New Jersey kept Atlanta winless on the season. Five Devils recorded multi-point efforts.

Crosby had 120 points last season to become the youngest scoring champion in NHL history at the age of 19, but he struggled against the Devils. He collected two goals and four assists in eight games as New Jersey won the season series with a 5-3-0 mark.

In 2006-07, Brodeur was 5-3-0 with a 2.24 GAA against Pittsburgh, including two of his career-best 12 shutouts. Elias, meanwhile, had a point in each of New Jersey's first seven games versus Pittsburgh last season, finishing with two goals and eight assists.

New Jersey leads the all-time series 76-55-14, including a 38-30-3 mark in the previous 71 games played at Mellon Arena.

The Devils play at Philadelphia and against the Islanders and Rangers before taking the ice for their first game at the new Prudential Center on Oct. 27 versus Ottawa.
