PHILADELPHIA (AP) -- Martin Brodeur hasn't been this busy in quite a while.

Brodeur stopped 32 shots to record his 71st shutout, and Grant Marshall and Mike Rupp scored goals as the New Jersey Devils sent the Philadelphia Flyers to their first home loss of the season, 2-0 Saturday night.

The Devils extended their unbeaten string to five games (4-0-1) and moved within four points of the Atlantic Division-leading Flyers. Philadelphia had won 11 straight home games and was 12-0-2 overall. The Flyers were the last team to lose at home this season.

The teams tied 3-3 on Friday night in New Jersey as the Flyers outshot the Devils 40-21.

"They threw a lot of shots on the net last night," Brodeur said. "It was the same type of thing tonight. They got 72 shots in the two games. It usually takes me four or five games to get that."

Brodeur, the active leader in career shutouts, earned his seventh of the season and recorded his NHL-leading 16th victory. It was his fifth win in a row.

"They (Flyers) did some great stuff but everybody chipped in," Brodeur said. "When guys are down, people had to step up and I'm kind of happy I was able to make saves to keep the guys in the game. I was able to control my rebounds. (Friday) they were shooting pucks right at me and I was giving up rebounds right around me."

Brodeur's best save came late in the third period when he slid across the ice to deny Joni Pitkanen's shot from inside the left circle. He also came up big midway through the second when he made a stick save on Jeremy Roenick's hard shot from the right circle. Later in the period he stopped back-to-back attempts by Tony Amonte.

"This was a good challenge for us over the weekend," Brodeur said. "We're playing real well, getting three points out of four. They are the best opponent we've had in the last three years in the Eastern Conference. That's why we bear down and play solid."

Jeff Hackett, who faced 22 New Jersey shots, lost for the first time in 12 starts (7-1-4). His last defeat was to the Devils on Oct. 30.

"Close doesn't get us anywhere," Philadelphia captain Keith Primeau said. "We have to find a way to win games like tonight and we didn't. They did a better job tonight of getting in shooting lanes."

Marshall put the Devils ahead at 11:25 of the second period with his first goal of the season. His slap shot from the left circle bounced off Pitkanen's stick and trickled under Hackett's right arm.

"It hit a stick and went straight out," Hackett said. "I was trying to cover as much area as I could."

Rupp scored on a power play in a scramble near the net with 1:44 left.

"This was probably our best win of the year," New Jersey captain Scott Stevens said. "It was definitely a good challenge to knock a team off at home that's been playing real well."
