EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) -- Mark Parrish and Michael Peca timed it perfectly -- at the expense of star goalie Martin Brodeur and the New Jersey Devils.

Parrish dashed up ice to take a return feed from Peca to beat Brodeur 1:25 into overtime Friday night, giving the New York Islanders 4-3 victory over the New Jersey Devils.

"When I got the puck through to him, I knew he would be looking for the two-on-one," Parrish said. "He was looking for me to catch up with him. He did a great job slowing down and he slid a great pass over to me. Luckily, I got it by Brodeur."

Parrish started the play by making a lead pass to Peca in the Islanders' zone. Peca carried the puck into the Devils' end, where he slowed to let the play develop.

"I waited and waited," Peca said. "I fired a pass over to him and I hoped it wouldn't bounce on him. It wasn't the flattest pass, but he handled it great and put it away."

Brodeur was focusing on Peca.

"I was looking at Peca with the puck the whole way," the goalie said. "When I saw him stop, then I saw the other guy coming in. He made a good play. He had to go to his backhand and get it over my body."

Devils coach Pat Burns called his team "overanxious" in the overtime.

"We gave up a two-on-one," Burns said. "You pretty much know the game is going to end there with a two-on-one."

The Islanders also got goals from Dave Scatchard, Mariusz Czerkawski and Oleg Kvasha to beat the Stanley Cup champions for the second time in 10 days. Garth Snow made 26 saves.

Jeff Friesen scored with 8:01 remaining in the third period to cap a three-goal comeback and help the Devils force overtime. Brian Rafalski and Patrik Elias also scored for New Jersey.

Scatchard took a centering feed from Jason Blake for the only goal of the first period at 12:30.

The Islanders scored the first two goals of the second period, both on the power play, to extend the lead to 3-0. Kvasha was the catalyst, scoring at 6:02 and setting up Czerkawski at 12:59.

The Devils got the next two goals of the period. Rafalski put New Jersey on the board at 15:18 with a shot from the top of the right circle that trickled between Snow's pads. Elias pulled the Devils within one with a short-handed breakaway with 1:42 left.

Friesen took a pass from Eric Rasmussen and drilled a shot past Snow from the right circle for the equalizer.
