EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) - The New Jersey Devils rediscovered their touch on the power play, while the Florida Panthers showed they still need work on their penalty-killing.

New Jersey scored three power-play goals, including the game-winner by Alexander Mogilny late in the third period, to defeat Florida 4-3 on Tuesday night.

The win snapped a two-game losing streak in which the Devils were outscored 10-2 by Carolina and the New York Rangers. They scored five power-play goals in 31 opportunities over their first five games.

``The problem was our passing,'' Devils coach Larry Robinson said. ``We weren't making hard, crisp passes. On the last goal, there was a hard pass from Kozlov down to Langenbrunner in the corner and he just fired it right across.''

Mogilny took the pass across the crease from Jamie Langenbrunner and stuffed it past Roberto Luongo at 13:54 for the deciding goal. The 16-year veteran also assisted on goals by Zach Parise and Viktor Kozlov, more than making up for his miscue that led to Florida's first goal.

Attempting to clear the puck from the Devils' zone late in the first period, Mogilny allowed Nathan Horton to pick him clean and whistle a shot past Martin Brodeur from between the circles.

The Devils trailed 3-0 in the first period of their last two losses, but this time Sergei Brylin tied the score a little over a minute after Horton's goal.

``Those things happen,'' Mogilny said of the turnover. ``But as long as you work hard, you'll get rewarded.''

The Panthers dropped their second straight game and have allowed six power-play goals in those two games after giving up three in a 4-0 loss to the Rangers on Monday night.

``You hope to get a few more power plays,'' Panthers coach Jacques Martin said. ``That's something we don't control. We have to be better as far as staying out of the box.''

The Devils stayed out of the penalty box, accruing only one penalty, a tripping minor on Grant Marshall midway through the final period. In the first five games, New Jersey was called for 37 penalties.

``I thought our positioning was good and that we were able to keep their players in front of us,'' Robinson said. ``When you're chasing, that's usually when you get penalties.''

Brodeur stopped 21 shots for the Devils, one game after being replaced after two periods in a 6-1 home loss to Carolina. Luongo made 30 saves for Florida, but was helpless on Mogilny's game-winner.

``It was a quick play,'' he said. ``The guy was right there. And he just had to put it into an empty net.''

Notes: The win was Robinson's 107th with the Devils, passing Pat Burns for second place on the club's all-time list. Jacques Lemaire leads with 233. ... Devils D Colin White (groin) and Panthers C Joe Nieuwendyk (back spasms) were scratches. ... John Madden left the ice with 1:15 left in the first period after a crunching hit into the boards by Mike Van Ryn of the Panthers. He returned to start the second period.
