Senators 4, Devils 2 (Final)
New Jersey Devils
newjerseydevils.com (Oct. 8) – Zach Parise and Arron Asham each scored their first goals of the season, and Martin Brodeur made 33 saves, as the Devils fell, 4-2, to the Ottawa Senators at Scotiabank Place on Monday.
New Jersey fell behind 2-0 on first-period goals from Chris Kelly and Dany Heatley, but cut into that deficit when Asham put the Devils on the board at 18:17 of the second.
The assists on Asham's goal went to
Dainius Zubrus and Parise, who now has a three-game point scoring streak (1g-3a).
After a Wade Redden power-play marker at 5:33 of the third period had restored a two-goal Ottawa lead, Parise responded 1:56 later to once again bring the Devils within one.
But with time running out, Daniel Alfredsson scored his fifth goal of the season into an empty net to seal the Ottawa win with 48.7 seconds remaining.
Ottawa held New Jersey to just one power-play opportunity. The Senators have successfully killed 21 penalties to begin the season.
New Jersey fell to 1-2 as it continues its season-opening nine-game road trip, and will host Ottawa on Oct. 27 for their first game at Prudential Center.
