newjerseydevils.com (Oct. 25) – The road trip is over. Finally, New Jersey's team is coming home.

The Devils' visit to Madison Square Garden was hardly rosy in Thursday's 2-0 loss to the Rangers. But it closes out the team's season-high nine-game journey and sets up the next stop on the schedule: Newark's Prudential Center for Saturday's home opener against the Ottawa Senators.

Nigel Dawes scored twice for the Rangers, including a goal 57 seconds into the game, and Henrik Lundqvist made it hold up with 22 saves to record his second regulation shutout of the season. The win snapped New York's four-game losing streak.

Dawes added his second of the night with a power-play goal at 16:07 of the third to seal the victory.

The Devils (3-5-1) were blanked by the Rangers for the first time since 1997, failing to capitalize on three straight second-period power plays. They wound up 0-for-4 in the game, en route to their third loss in a row.

New Jersey will look to reverse that trend during the upcoming three-game homestand that includes visits from Tampa Bay on Oct. 31 and Toronto on Nov. 2.

The Devils generated little offensive pressure in their first meeting of the season with the Rangers, as they were outshot in every period and 31-22 overall.

Known more for his checking skills, Jay Pandolfo was one of two Devils with a team-leading four shots on the evening. Defenseman Sheldon Brookbank, making his Devils debut, was the other.

Brent Sutter's group closes out the trip having collected seven of a possible 18 points, and three out of a possible eight against Atlantic Division opponents.

In his seventh start, Martin Brodeur made several big saves to keep the Devils within one goal, including a stick save on a shorthanded breakaway attempt by Chris Drury at 6:28 of the second.

Brodeur later came up with a superb glove save on Drury's follow-up shot off of a Shanahan rebound at 11:33.

The Devils' goaltender turned away 13 of 14 Rangers shots in the opening frame, and helped keep ex-Devil Scott Gomez of the scoresheet. Brodeur is now just two appearances shy of 900 for his career.
