Islanders-Devils Preview
New York Islanders vs. New Jersey Devils

GAME: New York Islanders (24-27-4) at New Jersey Devils (30-21-6).

TIME: Saturday, 1 p.m. EST.

The New Jersey Devils seek a franchise-record ninth straight home win when they face the New York Islanders for the fifth time this season.

New Jersey notched its eighth consecutive home victory with a 7-4 win over Tampa Bay on Tuesday, tying the franchise mark set in both the 1987-88 and 2002-03 seasons. The Devils have outscored their opponents 32-13 and converted 12 of 36 power-play attempts during the streak.

Goaltender Martin Brodeur has won all eight games during the run, posting a 1.61 goals-against average and four shutouts. Overall, Brodeur is 17-5-2 with a 2.38 GAA at home this season.

Backed by Brian Gionta's two goals and 37 saves by Brodeur, the Devils won 3-2 in overtime at Boston on Thursday. Gionta's 33rd goal of the season came 2:10 into the extra session when he knocked the puck past Bruins goalie Tim Thomas while falling to the ice.

"With only two games before the Olympic break, we want to get all the points we can get," said Gionta, whose Devils won't play again until March 1 after this game. "The key for me is to refocus every game and not relax or back off what is making me so successful."

Gionta, who totaled 33 goals over the last two seasons, has four goals and two assists during a four-game point streak. In his career against New York, the 27-year-old right wing has six goals and five assists in 17 games.

New Jersey has won consecutive games in this series and is 12-6-1 with one tie against New York since the start of 2001-02, including a 7-2-1 mark at home.

The Islanders have lost three of four since tying their season-high three-game winning streak. Over those four contests, they've allowed 17 goals, including nine on the power play.

In a 5-2 loss to Philadelphia on Wednesday, Trent Hunter and Miroslav Satan each had goals, but Garth Snow struggled in his first start since Jan. 4 after being sidelined with a sprained MCL in both knees.

Snow allowed two first-period goals, including one short-handed, and finished with 22 saves.

"We didn't show up the first 20 minutes," forward Mark Parrish said of his team being outshot 15-6 in the opening period. "We couldn't do anything from there."

Mike York assisted on Satan's goal to extend his point streak to three games, and has two goals and seven assists in his last six contests.
