Preview: Devils vs. Rangers
New York Rangers vs. New Jersey Devils
newjerseydevils.com – The New Jersey side of the Hudson River rivalry will have a new look beginning Wednesday night, when the Devils and Rangers square off for the first time at Prudential Center.

After years of unforgettable New Jersey-New York matchups played in East Rutherford, the scene now shifts to Newark (7:00 p.m., FSN NY, WFAN 660 AM), where the Devils have opened their home schedule with a 3-2-0 record.

Martin Brodeur enters the game with 499 career wins, and sits on the verge of joining Patrick Roy as the only goaltenders in league history to have registered 500 wins. Roy holds the NHL record with 551.

Brodeur, with 38 wins and seven career shutouts against the Rangers, would face ex-Devil Scott Gomez for the first time in the Garden State. Gomez, who spent the first seven years of his career with the Devils, signed as a free agent with the Rangers last offseason.

Home ice has historically favored the Devils in the series, and the club went undefeated at home against the Rangers last season (3-0-1). New Jersey owns an all-time home record of 45-25-5 against New York.

The Rangers have won both meetings between the two teams this season, but are just 1-5-1 this season on the road.

On Monday, the Devils improved to 7-8-2 with a 3-2 win over the Penguins at Mellon Arena.

Patrik Elias ended an 11-game drought, scoring off of a Brian Gionta pass with 5:23 remaining in regulation to snap a 2-2 tie.

"It's a big goal obviously and it's good to see Elias score,” head coach Brent Sutter said. Hopefully, this will give him some confidence."

Kevin Weekes (2-0-1) made his third start of the season and stopped 23 of 25 Pittsburgh shots, as the Devils broke a five-game road winless streak with their second win in three games.

"Our confidence level has been going up and down so far this season, so to be able to bounce back and win this game says a lot about us," Weekes said. "We feel a lot better about ourselves."

New Jersey took a 2-0 first-period lead on goals from Travis Zajac and Zach Parise, whose power-play goal at 10:33 ended the Devils' 0-for-19 dry spell on the man advantage.

Goals from Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin brought Pittsburgh even, but Elias’ tally proved the game winner as the Devils moved ahead of the Penguins for fourth place in the Atlantic Division.

FOOD DRIVE: FRIDAY, NOV. 16 vs. ISLANDERS

UPCOMING PROMOTIONS
