JETS (10-11-4) at DEVILS (9-9-5)
Radio: WFAN 660 AM & 101.9 FM
Last 10: Winnipeg 5-3-2; New Jersey 6-3-1
Season series: The second of two meetings. Winnipeg Jets goalie Al Montoya stopped 24 shots and Evander Kane scored two goals in a 3-0 victory against the New Jersey Devils at MTS Centre on Oct. 13.
Big story: The Jets have lost four straight and their star offensive players are struggling. Mark Scheifele hasn't scored in 24 games, and Kane and Blake Wheeler haven't connected in 11. Goalie Ondrej Pavelec is 0-2-1 in his past three starts while allowing nine goals in that stretch.
"Winning and losing is determined by a fine line for us," Jets coach Claude Noel told the Winnipeg Sun.
New Jersey saw its three-game winning streak snapped Saturday in a 2-1 loss to the San Jose Sharks, the last of a three-game road swing through California. The Devils are 3-5-3 against Western Conference competition. The Jets are 4-1-1 against the East.
Jets: The Jets begin a six-game road trip through the Eastern Conference over the next two weeks before returning home Dec. 10. The injury-depleted blue line received some relief in a shootout loss to the Minnesota Wild on Saturday with the return of Mark Stuart. Stuart had missed 12 of the past 16 games with a hip injury, including a 10-game absence dating back to Oct. 27. He logged 17:49 of ice time with two hits and one shot on goal.
The Wild pulled into a 2-2 tie with under five minutes left in regulation on a goal by Zach Parise to force overtime.
"We played a pretty good game, but when you're up a goal with just over five minutes left, you have to finish those off," Stuart said.
Devils: Martin Brodeur gave coach Peter DeBoer and teammates a scare with 1:31 left in regulation Saturday when the likely Hall of Fame goalie lay motionless on the ice after being struck in the back of the neck with the puck while diving to make a save. Brodeur lay on his back for about a minute following a shot by Brent Burns before finally getting up to his knees to a nice ovation from the fans. He eventually got up and remained in the game.
"It was more of a kind of electric shock through my body," Brodeur said. "It was kind of a little numbness everywhere. It went really quick through my legs and feet and fingers. I wasn't sure. I never felt that before, so that's why I didn't move. When I got up, I was a little dizzy, but I guess it's normal when you go through a little experience like that.
"When I got up, I felt fine. I feel fine now. I'm just a little sore in the neck."
Damien Brunner returned to the lineup after being listed a healthy scratch for the first time this season in an overtime victory against the Los Angeles Kings on Thursday. He played left wing on a line with center Patrik Elias and right wing Steve Bernier. Stephen Gionta reportedly reinjured his ankle in the first period against the Sharks and did not return.
Who's hot: Jets defenseman Dustin Byfuglien has five goals and seven points in the past five games. … Rookie defenseman Eric Gelinas has three points in the past two games and leads the Devils with seven points (two goals, five assists) on the power play.
Injury report: New Jersey is without defensemen Bryce Salvador (fractured foot), Anton Volchenkov (lower body) and forward Ryane Clowe (concussion). Gionta (ankle) is questionable. … Jets defenseman Jacob Trouba (upper body) is questionable. Trouba has missed the past 14 games since injuring his neck in a 4-3 win against the St. Louis Blues on Oct. 18.
