BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) - Buffalo Sabres goaltender Martin Biron had difficulty remembering the last time he defeated the New Jersey Devils.
The reason for that's simple: He's only done it once in his career, and that was almost four years ago. The Sabres haven't been much better.
Biron and the Sabres ended a long string of frustration with a 4-1 win Tuesday night, the team ending an 11-game winless streak against New Jersey - an 0-8-3 stretch since beating the Devils Jan. 12, 2002.
Chris Drury and J.P. Dumont had a goal and assist each, while defenseman Brian Campbell and Daniel Briere also scored. Biron stopped 21 shots, ending a personal 0-4-2 drought against the Devils.
"I don't know if I've ever beaten New Jersey to be honest with you, but it feels good," Biron said.
The win helped the Sabres erase the dreadful memories of a 6-1 loss at Ottawa on Saturday, and gave them two wins in three games after a stretch of six losses in seven games.
"After getting smoked in Ottawa it was a big win for us," Drury said.
Scott Gomez scored for the Devils, who were coming off consecutive wins against Washington. New Jersey is 2-3-2 in its last seven and hasn't won three straight since March 2004 when it won four in a row.
The trouble for the Devils is they're banged up, missing Alexander Mogilny (concussion), Viktor Kozlov (illness) and Patrik Elias (hepatitis A), who's yet to play this season.
The lack of depth showed. After registering nine shots and going up 1-0 in the first 7 minutes, the Devils managed just 13 shots the rest of the way.
New Jersey also failed to convert on six power-play opportunities, snapping an eight-game streak in which it scored 10 goals on 44 chances
"I think everyone is squeezing it to a certain extent," Devils goalie Martin Brodeur said. "Special teams let us down ... and we couldn't get any momentum going."
New Jersey has scored three or fewer goals in six of its last seven. And the Devils' 22 shots against Buffalo, was one better than a season-low.
"Man to man, player to play, there's a real struggle going on right now," forward John Madden said.
Rallying from a 1-0 deficit, Drury set up the game-winner getting the puck behind the net and then feeding Campbell, pinching in at the left circle. Campbell's shot went through two Devils defenders and beat Brodeur on the short side on a power-play seven minutes into the second period.
Drury sealed the win eight minutes into the third period after Brodeur came out to stop Mike Grier's shot on a rush from the right circle. Drury out-muscled Jamie Langenbrunner to the rebound and, from a bad angle, had his shot go in off Brodeur's outstretched stick.
Sabres credited Dumont for giving them a lift, his goal coming midway through the first period, three minutes after Gomez scored.
"That really lifted the team and lifted the crowd and that was really important," Biron said. "Sometimes you have to just have to weather the storm a little bit, go back out and that's what we did."
Biron was hardly tested with most of the Devils' shots coming from the perimeter.
Notes: Devils RW Grant Marshall assisted on Gomez's goal, giving him two goals and three assists in three games. ... Former Sabres captain Mike Foligno was among six inducted into the Sabres Hall of Fame during a pre-game ceremony. Foligno played 10 seasons with Buffalo through 1990-91, and his 247 career goals with Buffalo rank sixth on the franchise list and he's second with 1,450 penalty minutes. ... Sabres goalie Ryan Miller, who's missed seven games with a broken right thumb, said he's meeting with a doctor Wednesday to evaluate his progress. Expected to be out until mid-December, Miller said he is gaining more flexibility in his thumb.
