Flyers 4, Devils 0 (Final)
New Jersey Devils 0, Philadelphia Flyers 4
newjerseydevils.com (Oct. 18) – With Devils on his doorstep all night long, Martin Biron could not be beaten.

The Devils unloaded 38 shots on Biron, but were unable to solve the Flyers goaltender in a 4-0 loss at Wachovia Center.

Mike Richards, Sami Kapanen, Jim Dowd and Joffrey Lupul scored for Philadelphia, which improved to 5-1-0 on the strength of its second straight shutout. The Flyers topped Atlanta, 4-0, on Tuesday.

For the Devils, the defeat followed back-to-back wins over Atlanta on Saturday and Pittsburgh on Wednesday, and drops them to 3-4-0 on the season.

New Jersey will look to get back on a winning track with a visit to the Islanders on Saturday (7:00 p.m., FSN NY, WFAN 660 AM).

The Devils were strong out of the gate, outshooting the Flyers 15-2 after one period and finishing the game with a 20-shot advantage. But as New Jersey was repeatedly stymied by Biron, Philadelphia managed to find the net behind Martin Brodeur, who allowed four goals on 18 shots.

Zubrus had a goal disallowed in the second period.
Brodeur was in net for all eight games against the Flyers in 2006-07, posting a 7-0-1 record. New Jersey's seven victories were the most by either team since 1983-84 (Phi., 7-0-0).

The Flyers collected their first goal on the power play, when Richards converted on a Daniel Briere pass in the high slot for a 1-0 Flyers lead at 3:49.

Kapanen followed with a knuckling slapshot that dipped by Brodeur for an unassisted goal at 8:15.

Later, Dowd redirected a Randy Jones point shot at 10:49 to give Philadelphia a three-goal lead. Lupul's tally with 5:51 left in regulation rounded out the Flyers' scoring.

Trailing 3-0 in the second, the Devils had an apparent goal disallowed at 7:51 when it was ruled that Dainius Zubrus kicked the puck into the net.

Devils then had two chances to get on the board late in the second. New Jersey generated a 2-on-1 when Patrik Elias picked off a Briere pass and turned the play up ice with Brian Gionta, but Biron was up for the task on a Gionta slapshot.

Biron came up big again just before the second intermission, stopping a John Madden breakaway at the buzzer,

The Devils recorded 10 shots over seven power-play chances but could not capitalize. The Flyers went 1-for-4.

Zach Parise led all Devils with eight shots, followed by Paul Martin with five.
