Devils 3, Penguins 2 (FINAL)
New Jersey Devils 3, Pittsburgh Penguins 2 (Nov. 12) – Patrik Elias picked a perfect time to get his name back on the scoresheet.

Elias broke a 2-2 tie with his first goal in nearly a month, and the Devils defeated the Penguins, 3-2, at Mellon Arena on Monday Night.

Elias' third of the season with 5:23 left in regulation snapped a goalless drought that had reached 11 games for the Devils' six-time leading scorer, and ended the Devils' five-game road winless streak.

Zach Parise added a goal and an assist, including the Devils' first power-play goal in their last six games, snapping an 0-for-19 stretch going back to Oct. 31.

Kevin Weekes (2-0-1) got his third start of the season, making 23 saves, and New Jersey improved to a mark of 7-8-2 with its second victory of the season over Sidney Crosby and the Penguins.

The winning goal developed from a 3-on-2 rush up ice, with Brian Gionta carrying the puck up the right wing alongside Sergei Brylin in the middle and Elias on the left.

Gionta threw a centering feed toward the net that Elias buried to put the Devils on top for good. It's the second gamewinner of the season for Elias, whose last tally sealed a win in Atlanta on Oct. 13.

New Jersey has won two of its last three contests, and can reach the .500 mark with a win in its first-ever Prudential Center meeting with the New York Rangers on Wednesday.

Zajac recorded the first goal of the game on the first shot of the game, giving the Devils a 1-0 lead at 4:40 of the opening frame. Zajac had last scored 11 games ago, during the Devils' last visit to the Steel City on Oct. 17.

The first goal has proven invaluable for the Devils, who are now 6-1-1 this season when scoring first.

Parise, who also assisted on Zajac's goal, gave the Devils a 2-0 edge with his power-play goal at 10:33 of the first.

Zajac's marker was a sharp-angle shot from the left faceoff circle that beat Pittsburgh goaltender Dany Sabourin, who posted his first career shutout on Nov. 5 against the Devils at Prudential Center.

The Devils scored on two of their first three shots of the contest, finishing 1-for-6 with the man advantage, and 2-for-3 on the penalty kill.

After Zajac and Parise had gotten the Devils off to a 2-0 lead, Crosby put Pittsburgh on the board 26 seconds into the second period to cut New Jersey's advantage in half.

Evgeni Malkin's power-play goal from Sergei Gonchar and Crosby at 10:34 of the third period then knotted the game at 2-2.

Arron Asham was not in the lineup, and was replaced by Mike Mottau, as the Devils went with seven defensemen... Dainius Zubrus posted an assist for his fourth point in three games... With two helpers, Brian Gionta recorded his first multipoint game of the season.

The next promotional night at Prudential Center is set for Friday, Nov. 30, against Montréal, when all fans in attendance will receive a Devils souvenir puck featuring the Prudential Center Inaugural Season commemorative logo, courtesy of Dale and Thomas Popcorn.
