Devils 4, Hurricanes 1 (F)
New Jersey Devils 4, Carolina Hurricanes 1

Sergei Brylin gave the Devils their first four-goal output since a 4-2 win against Philadelphia on Dec. 16. (Jan. 10) –
Patrik Elias is scoring, the power play is clicking and the Devils are on a roll.

Elias broke a 1-1 tie late in the second period, and the Devils went 2-for-5 with the man advantage to post a 4-1 win over the Carolina Hurricanes at RBC Center on Thursday night.

Elias' 10th of the season gave the three-time 30-goal scorer four goals to go with four assists in his last seven games, and extended his points streak to four games (2g-3a).

Travis Zajac notched a power-play goal and an assist, and Jamie Langenbrunner and Zach Parise each collected a pair of assists as the Devils picked up their fourth straight win in Raleigh.

Martin Brodeur made 20 saves for his 23rd win of the season, and improved to 18-3-1 since Nov. 17.

Brodeur was named the starting goaltender for the 2008 Eastern Conference All-Stars on Tuesday, and has allowed a goal or less in six of his last eight starts, including two shutouts (7-1).

Brian Gionta also scored a power-play goal for New Jersey, which struck twice on the man advantage for the first time since going 3-for-6 on Nov. 30.

The Devils' 12th road victory snapped a two-game losing streak away from Prudential Center, and protected the club's lead over Pittsburgh for first place in the Atlantic Division.

New Jersey (25-15-3) has won 18 of its last 24, and holds a five-point advantage over Carolina for second place in the East.

Zajac's eighth of the season at 12:24 gave New Jersey the lead in the first period, before Keith Aucoin's first NHL goal from Dennis Seidenberg and Craig Adams knotted the contest at 2:41 of the second.

The Zajac tally from Langenbrunner and Parise extended New Jersey's scoring streak with the man advantage to five games (6-for-22, 27.2%), and kept Zajac on his recent tear.

The second-year centerman has scored three times in his last four games, including two goals on the power play.

A Langenbrunner centering feed from the right wing caromed off Cam Ward's pads and right to Zajac, who scored on the rebound.

Elias put the Devils ahead 2-1 at the 17:59 mark of the second period, blasting a slapshot from outside the top of the left circle that beat Ward high over his glove side.

Gionta made it 3-1 with his 13th of the season, and sixth on the power play, from Andy Greene and Zajac at 12:54 of the third period.

Gionta got his stick on Greene's wrist shot from the point to give the Devils' power play its first multi-goal game since Nov. 30, when it went 3-for-6.

Sergei Brylin added New Jersey's fourth of the night with his fourth of the season, swatting home John Madden's rebound with 1:52 left in regulation.

New Jersey closes out its brief two-game road swing with a stop in Buffalo on Saturday night, then returns to Newark to play five of six contests at Prudential Center to wrap up the month of January.

The Devils, who finished 3-1 against Carolina in 2006-07, next meet the Hurricanes on Feb. 9 at New Jersey.

The Devils last scored four goals back on Dec. 16 when they beat the Flyers, 4-2... Andy Greene had an apparent power-play goal waved off by referee Don VanMassenhoven after Cam Ward was knocked to the ice by traffic in front of the Carolina net. No penalty was called on the play... Sheldon Brookbank was scratched from Thursday's contest. Cam Janssen (shoulder), Jay Pandolfo (groin) and Karel Rachunek (ankle) remain sidelined.
