NEWARK, N.J. -- The Montreal Canadiens found a new building to win in Saturday night.

Tomas Plekanec scored the game-winner off a deflection in the third period, and Carey Price made 32 saves for his 15th win of the season as the Canadiens defeated the New Jersey Devils, 2-1, at Prudential Center.

Montreal moved back into first place in the Eastern Conference with 42 points in 28 games. The Canadiens have picked up 22 of those points in 14 road games (10-2-2) and have at least a point in all nine road buildings they have played in this season.

Price kept pace with Pittsburgh Penguins goalie Marc-Andre Fleury for the most wins in the NHL. Fleury shut out the New York Rangers, 3-0, Saturday, to give the Penguins 42 points in 29 games.

Devils goalie Johan Hedberg made 20 saves in his career-high 12th straight start, but New Jersey lost in regulation for the first time in four games. They dropped to seventh in the Eastern Conference.

Plekanec gave Montreal the lead 6:49 into the third period when he deflected Jarred Tinordi's shot from the point past Hedberg. Tinordi got the lone assist for his first point in his NHL debut.

It was Montreal's first shot on goal in nearly 15 minutes.

The Devils and Canadiens headed into the third period tied 1-1. Montreal forward Colby Armstrong and New Jersey defenseman Peter Harrold each scored his first goal of the season to provide the offense.

Armstrong scored an unassisted goal on a wrist shot from the left circle 8:08 into the first period.

Devils center Stephen Gionta won a faceoff in the left circle, but Anton Volchenkov tripped and lost the puck, leaving it for Armstrong, who carried it into the left circle and ripped a shot over Hedberg's right shoulder into the far corner of the net.

Harrold shot through forward Steve Bernier's screen to beat Price with a power-play goal 3:54 into the second period. It was his first goal in 18 games with the Devils over two seasons.

Harrold left the game 56 seconds into the third period after Andrei Markov's deflected shot hit him in the face, breaking his visor and leaving him dripping blood on the way to the dressing room. Markov's shot from the left side hit off of Adam Henrique's stick and directly into the right side of Harrold's headgear. He did return to the game.

Ilya Kovalchuk, who had the assist on Harrold's goal, nearly gave the Devils a 2-1 lead but his shot off a shorthanded 2-on-1 rush hit the left post with 6:49 left in the second period. The crowd reacted as if the puck went in, but replays showed the puck hit the post and never crossed the goal line as it flew across the crease.

Montreal forward Lars Eller also found iron with his blast from the right side late in the second period.
